Mohammed Barkindo

Muhammad Barkindo, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' secretary general, has passed away.

Barkindo passed away Tuesday night.

In the small hours of Wednesday, Mele Kyari, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, tweeted to his verified Twitter account, @MKKyari, to share the news of Barkindo's passing.

Our revered Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo passed away. On July 5, 2022, at about 11 p.m., he passed away. His personal family, the NNPC, Nigeria, OPEC, and the global energy world have all suffered a significant loss. Plans for the funeral will be revealed soon, Kyari tweeted.

At the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) honored Barkindo and praised him as a deserving ambassador for the nation.

A former member of the ninth Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, responded to Barkindo's passing by tweeting on his Twitter account, "Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, former GMD NNPC and up till recently, @OPECSecretariat writer, was honored yesterday." Today at 11 p.m., he passed away. Aljanna firdausi, may Allah grant him. Amin. That is how fleeting and fleeting life is.
